Stay Healthy and Lose Weight Drinking Green Tea

One of the best kinds of drink to have if you are serious about losing weight and especially through diet is green tea. This has become very popular in recent years as more information about its many amazing health properties become known and released by medical and health researchers.

As an alternative to other hot beverages such as coffee and black tea, green tea outperforms them on many levels while still providing a calming and enjoyable hot drink that can be taken at almost any time except right before going to bed at night. This is because, like coffee and black tea, green tea contains caffeine, which is a stimulant and therefore not recommended if you want to get to sleep easily!

However, by volume green tea contains less caffeine than black tea or coffee, although its weight loss effects are increased dramatically when compared with other caffeinated drinks thanks to a combination with other elements of the tea which are not present on other drinks. This means that you get all the benefits of the weight loss properties of caffeine without needing to take so much of it.

Another great property of this tea is that it is a good relaxant which helps reduce stress. Stress is known as one of the major causes of weight gain. This is because stress acts in a negative way on our digestive system, causing less efficient digestion and greater fat storage from the food we eat. By reducing stress, we give our digestive system a boost enabling it to make better use of the food we eat and thereby store less of it as fat. Drinking green tea during the day helps to reduce stress and indirectly to prevent weight gain and when combined with a healthy, low calorie diet, to promote a reduction in weight.

Thirdly, green tea has been found to act on the insulin response to eating foods that are high in refined sugars and high Glycemic Index carbohydrates. These foods create a rapid boost of insulin to counteract the rush of sugars released into the bloodstream. The insulin is intended as a blood normalizer and carries the excess sugars away to be processed into stored visceral fat (belly fat) which is why these foods cause weight gain. When green tea is drunk shortly after eating these foods, it actually suppresses the insulin response, which causes the knock on effect of less of the excess sugars being stored as fat and more being burned as energy.

There are many health benefits associated with this tea, not least of those being its high component of antioxidants. Antioxidants help our body remove harmful free radicals which, if left to run riot around our bodies, cause cellular damage and have been shown to be the cause of several cancers. Drinking this tea regularly helps to minimize this damage allowing more healthy cells to be produced by the body.

All in all, green tea is a very healthy beverage to drink as it not only gives us so much in the way of health benefits, it also helps with weight management in ways that scientists and researchers are still uncovering.
